Outdoor Activities

Greenview Cottages is a year round destination for active outdoor and fishing enthusiasts. Snow sports aside, Smuggler's Notch and the Lamoille Valley have an exhausting number of ways to enjoy the rugged outcrops and green valleys of the area. We can't claim to name them all here, but we can give some of our family's favorites and those of past guests. Come and stay in one of our amazing rental vacation homes, cabins, or condos and try them all out.

Horse lovers (and those that think they might be) have an excellent choice in the area; Lajoie Stables, 802.644.5347. You'll find friendly, safe and inviting grounds and children are well prepared for. With advanced notice, you may line up special trial rides for your family; and excellent event for a family vacation in the Smuggler Notch area. Lajoie also offers sleigh rides when the weather permits and they have a great barnyard for small kids to visit and feed the animals. Lajoie offers winter trail rides for those who want year round excitement and the very best way of exploring Vermont's unique scenery.

The Lamoille River has several canoe and kayak operators in and around Jeffersonville. We take our trips with Green River and have always had great experiences, good working equipment and very helpful staff. They offer river floats suitable for children, older adults and longer trips for those who want a little more workout. For an extra special day on the water, you may want to try the wildlife view float or the Boyden winery trip.

The Long Trail is the oldest long distance hiking trail in America and it is suitable for day hikes or extensive journeys by seasoned trail experts. After a long hike you can always come back and relax in one of our comfortable lodgings whether it is a vacation home, cabin, or condo. Access to the trail is easy and can be found at several places within a few miles of Greenview. This is an incredible opportunity to introduce children and teens to the outdoors safely and with well prepared background materials. See the link provided to order maps and information in advance of your visit. This is also an easy way to access the river for self guided trout fly fishing.

Mountain biking and cycling are very popular due to the scenery and terrain. There are an unlimited number of back roads to take. Cyclists can take "The Smuggler's Notch Challenge" if they feel extremely up for the climb! This was rated one of the best rides in Vermont by Trails.com. Mountain bikers seeking a thrill can head to Mount Mansfield for the wooded trails of the Nordic ski slopes. For tamer, more family friendly options, mountain bikers can stay right in Jeffersonville and bike along the Lamoille River or the Brewster on the trails there.
